The Story
Behind Synergy
The story behind Synergy is as rich and vibrant as the coffee. It all began when Carolina Londoño and Sara Bedoya discovered We Belong: An Anthology of Colombian Women Coffee Farmers, a book published by Lucia Bawot, a photographer who has specialized in the coffee industry for the past decade and now leads the NGO SANA. Carolina, owner of Brooklyn nano roaster The Marquesina Coffee, and Sara, a Fifth-generation woman from a coffee farming family currently working for Yellow Rooster Coffee Imports, each felt a deep connection to the stories Lucia shared. Drawn by this shared connection, they both reached out to Lucia separately-unaware that fate was quietly weaving their paths together.
Fast forward to November 2024, Sara and Lucia arranged to meet for a coffee in Brooklyn. In a twist of serendipity, Caro happened to be in the same café. It was a moment that felt destined. Lucia introduced them, and within minutes, the shared energy and vision between the three of them sparked an idea: to create a special edition coffee that combined their talents to celebrate the strength of Colombian women in the coffee industry.
Naturally, they chose a coffee produced by one of the women featured in We Belong Gilma Cupaque, whose story deeply resonated with all of them. And so, Synergy was born—a coffee that embodies the power of collaboration and the unstoppable spirit of women supporting women.
5% per bag sold will be donated to SANA, a nonprofit that provides a mental health and wellness program for women coffee farmers in Colombia like Gilma.
